Cyclones NYC Parks Union Appreciation Week

Hope this message finds you well.  As we wrap up the 1st week of May I wanted to reach out to the NYC Parks Union leaders about our upcoming NYC Parks Essential Worker Appreciation Week.  Click on this link here: à https://fevo.me/bc2022nycparks

At each Cyclones Home game on Coney Island from Tue June 7 through Sun June 12 we will be honoring and recognizing the members from a different union.  Based on previous conversations with most of you, I plotted each union for one of the following nights:

  • Tue June 7 @7pm – Local 1506
  • Wed June 8 @7pm – Local 1508
  • Thu June 9 @7pm – Local 1507
  • Fri June 10 @7pm – Local 1505
  • Sat June 11 @6pm – Local 983
  • Sun June 12 @2pm – Local 299

I heard back from everyone except Joe at 983 and Gibson at 1506 so based on what days were left I plotted those accordingly.  I don’t mind highlighting more than one union per day but since there was 6 unions I thought it worked perfectly like that since we had a 6 game homestand.  If you would like to move your date let me know.

We will be doing an overall NYC Parks Appreciation Day on Sat June 11th.  Any parks employee, family member, or friend, can get tickets to any game that work by just using the link but I would like to honor and recognize at least 1 representative from your union on your respective days.  Please feel free to share this link with all union members, it doesn’t have to be only Parks Employees.  We would like all frontline civil servant workers to take advantage of this discount offer for the hard work they’ve done the last 2 years and continue to do!

A flyer is to come but please feel free to start sharing and using the link with fellow union members family and friends.  At each game, We would like to include and offer each union the following:

  • The ability to honor one Winning Woman (a program where we honor amazing women within our community who have gone above and beyond) Read more about this here: à brooklyn | Cyclones (milb.com)
  • A chance for a union member to throw out a ceremonial first pitch
  • The ability to show your logo, a short 1-minute video and have PA reads throughout the game that highlights your union
  • The ability to highlight 3 – 4 Community Champions (where we honor people who have dedicated themselves to their community and local causes)
  • An activation table on the concourse to promote your union
  • A union member to sing the national anthem pregame or god bless America in 7th inning stretch

On June 8th, the Brooklyn Cyclones will have an Appreciation Night for Local 1508. The Local has chosen PS1 Yahaida Santana to receive the Winning Woman award. She will be our featured employee and will be throwing out a Ceremonial first pitch, along with Vice President Anthony Mazzallo. Since it's a doubleheader, this will be done prior to the game 1 start of 5PM. If you would like to join us in honoring "Heidi", discount tickets of $10 are still available. Hope to see you there!!

When AFSCME members stand together, we have power in numbers. Together, we can defend our freedom to take our loved ones to the doctor when they get sick and retire with dignity some day. Together, we have the power to make our voices heard at work and in our democracy. That’s our AFSCME Agenda.

Public service workers across the country are losing their foothold in the middle class. So says an article in The New York Times this week that serves as a reminder of why labor unions are more needed now than ever.
